Weather Emergency Procedures

The weather forecast for the next 72 hours has Alexandria getting up to 12 inches of new snow.  With that in mind, our general recommendations for public safety are:

  • Do not park on the city streets
  • Do not put garbage cans on city street or public right of way
  • When snow stops, please clear public sidewalks within 24 hours

The Public Works Departments will be starting to plow snow at approximately 3:00 PM on Saturday and will work through the night in clearing. When cars are left in the city street, the plows have no choice but to go around them, causing snow build-up on that street.  Our city ordinances state that a car has to be removed within 72 hours of the snow occurrence.

In the event that a Snow Emergency is announced, all cars must be moved for a determined amount of time, which will be detailed in the announcement.  If this occurs, it will be announced in the local newspaper, radio stations, the City of Alexandria’s Facebook page and on the City of Alexandria’s website www.AlexandriaMN.city

For questions or snow concerns on 3/9 or 3/10, please contact the Douglas County Non-Emergency dispatch at 320.763.6631.
