Demonstration Project on 6th Avenue

The City will be setting up a transportation demonstration project that will commence on October 1 and will last until approximately mid-November along 6th Avenue from Victor Street to Rosewood Lane.

The City is the recipient of an Active Transportation Planning Grant from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.  The grant allows the City to complete a study that analyzes existing conditions, engages the community, and then identifies ways to improve infrastructure and encourage active transportation in the form of walking, biking, and rolling.

One of the elements of the plan is a demonstration project that allows the City to test out a change in street design prior to making any permanent changes.  The local committee working on the project identified the area around the intersection of 6th and McKay as the area to study.  This intersection and the area near it provide challenges for those walking, biking, and driving.

On September 30 and October 1, you will notice crews setting up temporary delineator posts, striping, and painting.  The main impact is that parking will be prohibited on 6th Avenue during the duration of the project from Victor Street to Rosewood Lane.  The street surface outside the driving lanes will be marked as a 10-foot walking and biking trail during the demonstration project.

We would ask that apartment building owners please inform their residents of this change.  Click here for detailed design sketches of the project.

Thank you in advance for you understanding as the City implements this demonstration project.  Please contact City Administrator Marty Schultz at any time at [email protected] or 320-759-3629 should you have any questions.
