Employee Spotlight: Reed Heidelberger

Why work in city government, specifically in Alexandria?

My answer isn’t very exciting, but I believe it’s true:  working for city government provides dependable employment that also enables you to be a part of supporting the community!

Share a memory of a time you felt proud to be in local government.

Any time I’m able to help someone, particularly an elderly person, understand Minnesota’s complicated property tax system a little bit better.

What are your goals for this year?

Rebuild our driveway landscaping, plan a summer get together/reunion with friends, complete some small woodworking projects.

What are your hobbies?

DIY projects, staying involved with my kids’ activities.

Tell us about your family and yourself.

I’ve been married to my wonderful wife, Sarah, for 16 ½ years and we have five children who help to keep us on our toes.

What are you goals this year and for your department?

Get the assessment completed in a timely fashion, continue to improve our “paperless”/electronic processes, get more content on the Assessor section of the city website.

There are a lot of acronyms in government, explain ones that come behind your name or that you use in your work.

SAMA—Senior Accredited Minnesota Assessor.  This is the highest level of licensure granted by the MN State Board of Assessors and it means that I have completed the education requirements (and maintain continuing education requirements) necessary to value all property types for property tax purposes.

What is your favorite place to go to enjoy Alexandria?  (restaurants, parks, activities/exercising, etc.)

It’s tough to limit only to one or two places, but indoors:  Andria Theater, outdoors:  City Park.
