Why work in city government, specifically in Alexandria?

Because Alexandria is a great place to be!  We’ve got fantastic natural resources and the people can’t be beat.  For me, working in city government is rewarding because I get to be a part of building our community, making it the best that it can be.  I get to meet and work with all kinds of people and there is a new challenge each and every day.

Share a memory of a time you felt proud to be in local government.

I am proud every time I drive around the code area and see projects that I have been involved in, in my own little way.  I’m always proud when what I do for the City makes a difference for somebody.

What are your hobbies?

My favorite thing to do, is to do anything with my family.  I love to garden, fish, camp, read, run around to flea markets and garage sales, float the Long Prairie River and just hang out

Tell us about your family and yourself.

Dave and I have been married for 30 years and have two kids; Spencer and Lindsay.   Dave is a service technician for Casey’s General Store and takes care of about 20 stores.  Spencer is  a social studies teacher in Cavalier ND and has been married to his wife, Britta for about a year and a half.  Lindsay is a reading interventionist at the Heart of Lakes Elementary School in Perham.

What are you goals this year and for your department?

Keep on learning new things and just keep up……

There are a lot of acronyms in government, explain ones that come behind your name or that you use in your work.

BO – this means Building Official.  It is a designation given by the State of Minnesota for individuals who have met all requirements and are certified to perform plan review/inspection of all building types.

Where is your favorite place to go to enjoy Alexandria?  (restaurants, parks, activities/exercising, etc.)

The Legacy of the Lakes is pretty cool and has a great garden.  We like to go to Pizza Ranch, Subway and Taco Johns on occasion.  The DQ’s are always  popular spots for us too.  Living near Carlos, Herbies is our usual go-to spot.  It’s our “Cheers”, where everybody knows your name……..
